From Denny: This post and poem was written on 14 January 2010, just days after the earthquake shook Haiti into rubble. It's been over 18 months and the country is still recovering slowly. All that pledged help from other countries did not materialize on the level they promised, including America. What help did arrive is still stored in warehouses because no one thought to bring over trucks and hire drivers to deliver the food across the countryside. The American Red Cross has a dismal record for this disaster, delivering more pontificating air than help.
This post really gives you a snapshot in time about how many people were feeling and thinking all over the world when word reached them about Haiti's misfortune. What's the good news? My musical missionary cousin is doing fine now. She survived the earthquake with some bumps and bruises, wrote a book about her experience during and after the earthquake. This April she married a Haitian doctor who is a fabulous man, a real tribute to his country. Life renews and begins again!
